The New York Times article “The God of ‘SNL’ Will See You Now" gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the audition process for Saturday Night Live. This article features an excellent group of actors including Will Ferrell, Fred Armisen, Molly Shannon, Seth Meyers, Andy Samberg, Tracy Morgan, and Kristen Wiig among others.
Seth Meyers: The hotel I was staying at, everybody was somebody who’d been flown in for the audition. If you went and got ice, you would hear snippets of auditions. Everybody else’s stuff sounds better than yours.
Fred Armisen: That night everyone who auditioned went to dinner, and Marci Klein called me on my cellphone and said, “I think we’re going to make this work out.” I saved the number on this little Nokia phone as “Best Call Ever.”
Andy Samberg: There’s a quote of Lorne’s, that you’re not just hiring talented people — you’re hiring people that you don’t mind seeing in a dark hallway at 6 in the morning. At some point or other, you’re going to bump into every single person who works there with your hair completely standing on end and the bags under your eyes are down to your ankles.
Overly sophisticated music and a model doll inside Ms. Saigon’s Vietnamese restaurant add to the flavor of their food. I ordered Pho with Shrimp, crab, and beef. When the bowl arrived I tasted a few good flavors. The fried beef bits were excellent. Furthermore, the soup lacked spicy-ness and so it appeared like the owners made up for this lack of spice by playing some old whimsical, and classical piano out of the speakers. My meal was a good value - about $8.50 and that came with a big glass of water. All in all, I would come back to this place if I am in the area, but I would not seek it out for another doubly tacky meal.
